Halbro North West Leagues Providing grass roots rugby since 2002

R.I.P. Barry Allen

It is with great sadness that we learnt that Barry Allen had passed away some time late on the 20th June in hospital.

Barry was a great supporter of the Leagues possibly putting more work into their success than many of us, but always working in the background. He did not ask at any time for any plaudits, a truly modest man.

He joined us at the commencement of the Leagues Organisation and in fact developed our first Web Site, later to be copied by our 2nd Web Site as we looked to re-fresh the site. All will know that on the Web Site as it was, he would always reply to complaints, queries etc. on the Forum but always in line with our Rules.

He was taken poorly a week ago and suggested in four days he’d only eaten to cheese sandwiches, Barry lived on his own. He subsequently sent over a text saying he’d been admitted to hospital to stabilise blood pressure and dehydration problems. He sadly never recovered.

In recent years he had developed a programme computer-wise which allowed us to set up our fixtures on a home and away basis throughout our Clubs sides. Ladies and Gentlemen he was indeed a genius. As a result our fixtures will be out a little later this year, and thankfully John Powell has the knowhow to provide continuity.

We, as the NOWIRUL Committee will miss Barry and all his help, and in many ways, his humour over the years, as we met issues in the Leagues, which were always  approached with a good heart by Barry – OUR FRIEND.

Rest in Peace and Thank You

Fred S. on behalf of The North West Leagues Committee.
